Eddie Hearn reports that Anthony Joshua has gained an 'unbelievable lift' from training with Oleksandr Usyk in Ukraine. This comes after Joshua's car crash that raised concerns about his fighting future.

Eddie Hearn has admitted that Anthony Joshua has received an âunbelievable liftâ from doing âincredibleâ training with Oleksandr Usyk in Ukraine.
Last month, Joshua began training with Usyk in the latterâs home country, four months after the British boxer survived a car crash that claimed the lives of two of his teammates.
Joshuaâs fighting future seemed up in the air after the accident in Nigeria, but he was quick to return to the gym and soon joined Usyk in Ukraine, where the unified heavyweight champion has been putting âAJâ through his paces.
What makes their bond even more intriguing is their in-ring history, with Usyk having outpointed Joshua in two world-title fights â dethroning AJ in 2021, and retaining the unified belts in their 2022 rematch.

And according to Joshuaâs promoter Hearn, who spoke to The Independent and other publications on Tuesday, the old rivalsâ joint-training has given AJ âan unbelievable liftâ.
âWhen I was there, heâd be doing these circuits, like heâs doing these tempo sprints,â Hearn said. âMost people do those sprints on their own, with nothing else attached; he would do his sprints, then heâd go over and do this kettle-bell circuit, then heâd do sledge â with this f***ing big fitness trainer standing on the sledge. Then heâd go back into the sprints. Iâm like: âWhat the f***?â
Eddie Hearn stated that Joshua received an 'unbelievable lift' from the training, indicating significant improvement.
Joshua's future was in doubt following a car crash in Nigeria that resulted in the deaths of two of his teammates.
Usyk has previously defeated Joshua in two world-title fights, first dethroning him in 2021 and then retaining his titles in a rematch in 2022.
Joshua began training with Usyk in Ukraine, which is Usyk's home country.

âWhen he started, I went to the guy: âHow many are you doing?â He went, âThree, because heâs just coming back to training.â I went, âThree, is that all?â because I thought that was all [he was doing, sprints]. He went: âOkay, we'll do five.â AJ went: âF***, mate, youâre never coming back!â
âIn the last session, you saw the little bit about the pineapple and coconut or whatever it was [that Usyk was motivating Joshua with], but what you didnât see was times when AJ was all out on his heart rate and Usyk was going: âPush, push, push.â Iâm watching, going: âThis is f***ing unbelievable, what Iâm seeing.â Youâve got the pound-for-pound No 1, youâve got the guy who he beat twice â whoâs probably the biggest star in the sport â and itâs incredible.
âSo, what heâs gonna get out of it is gonna be amazing. Iâve always been confident he beats Tyson Fury, but Iâm so sure he beats Tyson Fury.â
Hearn was referring to fresh negotiations between Joshua and his compatriot Fury, a fellow ex-heavyweight champion.
On Saturday, Fury ended his fifth retirement and boxed Arslanbek Makhmudov, outpointing the Russian at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Joshua watched from ringside. Fury, 37, called Joshua, 36, into the ring but the latter declined, though AJ did say he would fight the âGypsy Kingâ in the near future.

On Tuesday, Hearn told The Independent and others that Joshua will almost certainly face another foe before boxing Fury, and he added that his fighter is likely to train with Usyk for both bouts.
âI think, at the moment, heâs very happy obviously,â said Hearn, 46. âThe plan is those two fights, heâll certainly be [training with Usyk] for those two fights, and look: sometimes [Joshua] talks like heâs got another three or five years in this sport, but you can get beat and everything changes, you know? But right now, I think itâs really what he needs.
âI think when he wasnât in that camp.... Heâs worked so hard to get himself physically ready to try and go back to full-time camp, but then when he went there the last two weeks and he came home for a week... Heâs back there now, he went on Sunday, and itâs good for him. I think when heâs there and heâs focused and heâs got that purpose, I think itâs really good for him.â
The Independent also spoke to Usyk on Tuesday, with the Ukrainian predicting that Joshua will beat Fury if the Britons finally square off.
Usyk, who also holds two decision wins over Fury, said: âI know he wins, but I donât know [how]. I looked at how Anthony is training, heâs a machine [...] Listen, itâs not a good performance [by Fury, against Makhmudov] for me, but Tyson wins, [so] itâs good.â
