The Giants wrapped up their 2026 NFL Draft feeling good about the future, but New York Daily News Giants reporter Pat Leonard said general manager Joe Schoen may not be part of it.
Leonard was a guest on New Yorkâs CBS 2 on Sunday night, and he explained why Schoen could be on the way out.
âWhen you talk to people in the league, it feels like anythingâs on the board right now,â Leonard said. âThere are people in the NFL who think Joe Schoen could be fired this week. There are people who think that based on the positive returns publicly of this draft, that maybe he sticks around, but (head coach) John Harbaugh moves on after the season because this is Joe Schoenâs final year of his current contract.â
Leonard added that Harbaugh has been thinking about adding someone he is familiar with to take over as general manager. He also said Harbaugh wants to rebuild the position after the players gave Schoen a D+ in the most recent NFLPA report card.
Leonard said that Harbaugh viewed the need to trade defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals as a byproduct of a deteriorating relationship with Schoen and the current front office.
âHeâs still pouring concrete on the foundation of a roster that he knows wasnât good enough, and the operation that he inherited wasnât good enough,â Leonard said. âHe has made a lot of drastic changes, and remember, at the beginning, he wouldnât even take the job until he had final say. So now he has to decide how he uses that final say on the general manager heâs going to spend time working with.â
Joe Schoen's job is at risk due to mixed opinions about his performance and a recent D+ grade from players in the NFLPA report card.
Reports indicate that there are people in the NFL who believe Joe Schoen could be fired this week, though opinions vary.
