Manchester United is considering a £75m move for Ajax winger Mika Godts, who has had a breakout season. Despite previous high-profile signings from Ajax, the club's willingness to spend big again remains uncertain.
Are Manchester United willing to spend big on another Ajax player?
After the money Manchester United spent on the likes of Anthony and Donny van de Beek, it seemed unlikely that the side would ever want to go shopping in Amsterdam again. However, a few years since signing these players, Manchester United are once again linked with an Ajax player. This time, its young Belgian talent Mika Godts.
Godts swapped Genk for Ajax a few seasons ago and has enjoyed a breakout season at the club. The 20-year-old winger has played 39 games for Ajax, scoring 16 goals and providing 13 assists. During his time at Genk, Godts was always tipped to be a big talent. He has now shown some realisation of this potential, but is it really enough to earn a move to Manchester United? £75m has been the fee widely reported, a huge amount for Manchester United to part with, especially when we consider that Godts has only really had one season playing at this high level.
However, that seems to be how modern football is these days. Just a glimpse of what a player could be has been enough for big clubs, especially in the Premier League, to part with millions of pounds to sign the player. For Ajax and Godts, a move could be accelerated if the player gets to go to the World Cup. With injuries to forwards and players out of form, Godts really should be part of the Red Devils team this summer. That could certainly improve his value, helping Ajax, but hindering Manchester United.
Manchester United have spent a lot of money in recent years as they look to get back to being a side capable of winning trophies. Godts may well prove to be a strong signing, but the sides track record has not been great, especially when signing players from Ajax.
The reported fee for Mika Godts is £75 million.

A World Cup appearance could enhance Mika Godts' value, potentially accelerating a move to Manchester United.
