Three athletes achieved double wins at the SAC Energy Invitational in Bedford, PA, with Tyler Caron winning the boys 1600m and 3200m, Arnold Mugerwa sweeping the boys hurdles, and Trinity Macey winning both the girls long jump and triple jump. Richland secured the boys team title with 130.5 points.
BEDFORD, Pa. – The area produced a trio of double-winners Saturday during the SAC Energy Invitational at Bedford Area High School.
Forest Hills’ Tyler Caron took gold in the boys 1600- and 3200-meter runs, breaking the tape at 4:30.13 and 9:51.6, respectively. Richland’s Arnold Mugerwa swept the boys hurdle events, taking the 110 (15.73) and 300 (41.65). Richland’s Trinity Macey topped the podium in the girls long jump (16-2 3/4) and triple jump (33-0 3/4). Mugerwa was named boys runner most valuable player. Macey earned the girls jumper MVP award.
Other boys winners were Chestnut Ridge’s Carter Wharton (100, 10.98); Richland’s Joseph McAneny (200, 22.96), Van Gontkovic (high jump, 6-2), Noah Lushko (pole vault, 13-0) and Arison McCulty (long jump, 21-11); and Northern Cambria’s Thomas Costello (javelin, 164-1) and Daniel Farrell (triple jump, 44-4). McCulty was named jumper MVP after breaking the meet record in the long jump.
Richland’s 400-meter relay squad won in 44.39. Relay members were not listed in results posted online.
Richland won the boys team title with 130.5 points, beating Bedford (93) and Tyrone (88).
Forest Hills earned the girls team crown with 171.5 points, topping Bedford (121) and Richland (116).
In the girls meet, Forest Hills won five individual events and two relays as Kinleigh Baumgardner (800, 2:32.69), Bella Ascherl (1600, 5:10.02), Mylee Glessner (100 hurdles, 15.41), Danika Faith (shot put, 34-6) and Olivia Speicher (discus, 107-6) took top honors alongside the Rangers’ relay teams in the 400 (52.2) and 3200 (10:54.46). Glessner broke the program record in the 100 hurdles. Faith was named girls thrower MVP.
Northern Cambria’s Emilee Depetro won the 400 in 1:00.11, while Bedford took two field events as Grace Brallier cleared 5-2 in the high jump and Sophia Genditzki won the pole vault at 10-2.
The double-winners included Tyler Caron in the boys 1600m and 3200m, Arnold Mugerwa in the boys hurdles, and Trinity Macey in the girls long jump and triple jump.
Tyler Caron won the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:30.13 and the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:51.6.
Richland won the boys team title with a total of 130.5 points, finishing ahead of Bedford and Tyrone.
