The Arizona Sun Devils are mourning the loss of a beloved coach.
Steven Miller, an assistant strength coach at the university, died Wednesday, April 15, according to a statement ASU shared on social media. Miller was 29.
A cause of death was not made known. According to the Arizona Republic, Miller suffered from epilepsy and had been experiencing "medical issues" recently, including on April 7 after a Sun Devils practice when roughly 25 players were still at the facility.

Miller was reportedly absent from two practices following the April 7 incident, but had returned to the team on Tuesday, just one day before his death.
Miller was a student at the university from 2015 through 2019 before returning to Arizona as an assistant strength coach. His former coach Todd Graham reacted to the news of Miller's death in a text message to on Thursday, calling the loss "so heartbreaking."

"In all my years at ASU, no one loved being a Sun Devil more than Steven Miller," Graham told the outlet. "He had a heart of gold & loved being a part of our team. He overcame so much as a young person that he truly appreciated being part of our close-knit family. He had a smile on his face and joy in his heart every day!"

Miller was "always the last one to leave the field, signing young kids’ autographs and taking pictures," said Graham, who added, "I know personally he has a strong Faith in God, so I know he is in a better place. Left us way too soon.”
A friend of Miller's, Wesley Johnson, remembered him as someone who "ALWAYS saw the light in each individual" and a "genuine soul."
Miller worked with a handful of NFL stars in his career, including New York Giants breakout star Cam Skattebo and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall commented, "such a good dude man, rest easy 🤍," on the Sun Devils' post.
Miami Dolphins tackle Austin Jackson wrote, "RIP Bro, I can’t believe this," and Seattle Seahawks tight end N'Keal Harry said, "It was an honor to have shared the field with you brother. Rest in Peace big guy💙."
