It has been a frustrating season for the Germany international, who missed half of the campaign with a knee injury and has since suffered several setbacks.
His absence from training does not necessarily mean he will miss the first leg against Atletico Madrid, however, with boss Mikel Arteta set to provide a team news update in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday evening.

But in a boost for Arsenal, Ebere Eze was involved in the session having also been forced off with an injury worry against Newcastle.
Speaking about Eze and Havertzâs injuries after the Newcastle game, Arteta said: âThey are muscular niggles.
