Arsenal pounce on defensive errors to earn semi-final first-leg advantage

Arsenal earned a one-goal semi-final advantage over OL Lyonnes after pouncing on defensive mistakes.

It was a game that started slowly at the Emirates Stadium but the first half did give us the opening goal in the 18th minute. Jule Brand received the ball from Lily Yohannes before driving forward, skipping past Kim Little, and then firing past Daphne van Domselaar.

The game opened up in the second half which seemed to help the Gunners and were awarded a penalty shortly after the restart when Wendie Renard was judged to have brought down Little. However, after a further review the decision was reversed.

The equaliser was a strange goal to see in a Champions League semi-final. Mariona Caldentey sent in a low free-kick delivery with little pace on the ball. Somehow as Christiane Endler got down for what should have been a simple catch the ball instead escaped her grip and found its way into the net.

While that first goal could be chalked up to goalkeeping error alone, Arsenal's winner was a myriad of errors.

First, a back pass to Ingrid Engen that she wasn't able to control. Then with looking to bounce both defender and goalkeeper collided allowing the forward the simplest of finishes.
