Jamahl Mosley, who has a strong track record against the Heat, may be a candidate for an assistant coaching role. Chris Quinn could potentially replace him in Orlando, which would allow Erik Spoelstra to adjust his coaching staff after recent struggles.

Q: Ira, if he doesnât land somewhere else, the Heat should add Jamahl Mosley to their staff, since he knows how to beat the Heat (5-0 this season, 7-0 counting the preseason. Joking aside, he played the big lineups we canât get Erik Spoelstra to play. Spo got that coach from the Grizzlies to the pace-and-space offense, so why not add a big-lineup specialist? â Zander.
A: First, it is likely that Jamahl Mosley, after the way he helped turn around the Magic, likely can do better at this stage than an assistantâs role. But there is a relationship there with Erik Spoelstra from their work with USA Basketball. It would be ironic if Spoelstra assistant Chris Quinn were to replace Jamahl in Orlando (he should stand as a leading candidate), leaving Spoelstra with the opportunity to bring on another assistant. There could be something to be said about providing a coaching jolt to Spoelstraâs staff after consecutive 10th-place finishes.
Q: The East isnât wide open. The competitive first round was due to teams Nos. 5-8 getting better. The Heat got blown out of the playoffs by a similar Cleveland team that went seven games vs Raptors. The Heat should know they arenât close. â John, Ocala.
A: Agree, but Pat Riley seemingly didnât (which either is a concern, or someone who saw something in this Heat roster that perhaps we missed). And itâs even beyond that. Itâs about Indiana getting Tyrese Haliburton back and only now beginning to fully get to work with Ivica Zubac, arguably the best center they have had in years (and, yes, better than Myles Turner). Itâs about Washington no longer going to be a walkover, now that and Antonio Davis are in place. Itâs about Charlotte getting a taste of the postseason life. And itâs about Orlando recognizing that good is not good enough, and moving on without coach Jamahl Mosley. It would be difficult, very difficult, to make an argument for the Heat, as they currently stand, being a top-six team in the East next season.
If Jamahl Mosley joins the Miami Heat, his experience in utilizing big lineups could provide a much-needed coaching jolt to the team's strategy.
Chris Quinn is seen as a leading candidate to replace Jamahl Mosley in Orlando due to his existing relationship with Erik Spoelstra and his experience as an assistant coach.
The Miami Heat faced challenges with consecutive 10th-place finishes, indicating a need for improvement and potential changes in their coaching staff.

Q: Looks like all the teams remaining in the Eastern Conference have durable big men. Probably, the same for the West. Shaquille OâNeal was singing Joel Embiidâs praises. Shaq on Embiid: Welcome to make the Big Man club, proud. â Stuart, Miami,
A: And so do the Heat, with Bam Adebayo, who, at the least, is up there with the pedigree of Jarrett Allen and Jalen Duren, and arguably there as well as a two-way presence compared to Karl-Anthony Towns, But letâs not, for example, overstate Deandre Ayton with the Lakers, Isaiah Hartenstein with the Thunder or the Timberwolvesâ Rudy Gobert at times over his career being played off the floor in the playoffs by opposing smallball. The Heat have their big man. The question is whether they have enough of them.
