Truro City manager John Askey has hailed the commitment of his side despite their relegation from the National League.
The Tinners were beaten 1-0 by third-placed Carlisle United in their final home game of the season.
The result ensured they would end their first-ever season in the fifth tier at the bottom of the table.
But despite having their relegation confirmed over Easter, Askey says his side has shown great character to continue to compete despite knowing they would be going down.
"The effort for the players to continue to do that when they know that we're down says more about them than when you win things," he told BBC Radio Cornwall.
"I think their attitude this season has been fantastic, and to keep it going up until the final game at home is remarkable."
The defeat was Truro's 28th in 45 games this season, 15 of which have been by a single goal.
"The amount of games that we've lost 1-0 is crazy; I can never remember it happening to a team - not that I've been involved in, whether playing or managing - and it's a fine margin; it's just how it's been," added Askey.
"We have improved, as I keep saying, and you can see that from when we played the first game of the season to this game.
"But there's no givens for next season - just because we put in a good performance now we've got to make sure that next season we become hard to beat and we're fighting to get into the playoffs next season."
