The Houston Astros might not be heading towards a postseason berth this season if things don't turn around soon, which might open the door to some trades by the deadline.
There are bound to be some players that draw a ton of interest from the Astros roster, with Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pena, Christian Walker, and Isaac Paredes a few who should draw interest.
But what about Hunter Brown, the Astros' Cy Young-caliber ace? Well, one rumor, according to CBS Sports' Dayn Perry, has Brown as a potential trade candidate. But, not in a normal way.
"This one seems the least likely to happen," Perry writes. "Another consideration is that Browns is under team control through the 2028 season, and trading him would indeed be a signal that the Astros don't intend to return to relevance during that span."
While Brown surely would've drawn significant trade interest if he were made available, even coming off an injured shoulder, this rumor from Perry that seemingly shuts the door on a trade is just what fans will want to hear.
Houston could conduct a massive fire sale and completely reset as a franchise starting at this season's trade deadline. But that would be a disaster for the Astros.
Alvarez and Brown are both under club control through the 2028 season, so unless there is some significant blow to the team that will make building a contender by 2028 impossible, there should be no trades involving Brown or Alvarez.

After 2028, then maybe things could begin to change, and a rebuild could begin. But, for now, the Astros should not conduct any such fire sale.
While this is merely a rumor from Perry, the points made do bring up some good news for Astros fans, as unless the Astros front office is going to conduct one of the worst-timed full-scale rebuilds ever, then Brown and Alvarez shouldn't leave the team.

Players like Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pena, Christian Walker, and Isaac Paredes are among those attracting trade interest.
