The Houston Astros are sitting at the bottom of the AL West with a 6-10 record, tied for the worst record in the American League, and in all of Major League Baseball.
Despite scoring 93 runs this season, the most in the league, their pitching staff has given up 101 runs, thanks to a ridiculous 96 walks allowed (six per game) to start the year. But things aren't getting any better for Houston.
As Chandler Rome of The Athletic reported Monday afternoon, the Astros got some terrible injury news on Jeremy Pena and Tatsuya Imai, with both key starters landing on the injured list.
"Jeremy Pena is going on the IL with a Grade 1 hamstring strain," Rome reports. "Tatsuya Imai is going on the IL with right arm fatigue."
These are two terrible pieces of news for the Astros. Losing both Imai and Pena in the same report is some brutal news for the Astros.
J.P. France and Colton Gordon, along with Shay Whitcomb, were all called up to the Majors amid these injury issues and a Jayden Murray option to the minor leagues, according to Rome.

Simply looking at the Astros' record, at 6-10, there should be some concern about the team. But add in their injury issues, and things are looking a whole lot more concerning.
And that was even before this latest news drop from Rome. Hunter Brown is on the injured list, as is Cristian Javier. Josh Hader is still out for a while, while Brandon Walter, Hayden Wesneski, Ronel Blanco, and Cody Bolton are all hurt as well.
Relievers Bennett Sousa and Nate Pearson are also still out, along with Jake Meyers, whose stint on the injured list this season is not going to be a short absence.
The Astros aren't just struggling on the field; they're struggling to simply stay on it with all of these injuries. Now that Imai and Pena are out for some time, it's safe to say things are going terribly in Houston this season.
The specific injuries for Jeremy Pena and Tatsuya Imai have not been detailed, but both players have been placed on the injured list.
The Astros currently have a 6-10 record, placing them at the bottom of the AL West and tied for the worst record in Major League Baseball.
The injuries to key players Jeremy Pena and Tatsuya Imai could significantly affect the Astros' performance, especially as they struggle with pitching and maintaining their offensive lead.
