
Athens Bible secured a spot in the state tournament after winning three consecutive games. Lawrence County and Ardmore will compete for the North Regional final in Class 5A on Thursday at 9 a.m.
May 14—FLORENCE — Athens Bible punched its ticket to the state tournament, and two more local teams are just one win away after the third day of the North Regional softball tournament Wednesday in Florence.
After a loss on Tuesday, Athens Bible won three straight games to win the losers bracket, becoming the Class 1A's North Qualifier 2 in the state tournament in Oxford next week.
In Class 5A, Lawrence County and Ardmore will see each other for the North Regional final on Thursday at 9 a.m.
Whoever wins gets the top qualifying spot from the North in 5A, while the loser will have to fight their way through the losers bracket.
"I like our mentality. I like our dugout from top to bottom," said Lawrence County head coach Josh Graham. "I'd take these girls over anybody. We've got a lot of fire and focus. I think we're ready to go tomorrow."
The Red Devils were in a similar situation last year with two wins on the first day before consecutive losses.
They got payback today, beating both teams who put an end to their season last year, Class 5A's No. 3 Boaz and Scottsboro.
"We got revenge, but the job isn't finished." said Lawrence County's Alivia Terry.
Ardmore run-ruled Douglas and then Russellville, outscoring region opponents by a combined 27-3 in their first day.
"Our offense was really good. When we pitch really well, we seem to hit better," said Ardmore head coach Whitney King. "So as long as we keep that rolling tomorrow, we'll be fine."
East Limestone, Falkville and Decatur Heritage saw their season end after two losses.

Ardmore 13, Douglas 0: Fallon Broadway threw five innings of one-hit ball with two strikeouts and a walk as Ardmore won its first game of the day.
Payton Pennington had three RBIs and a double while going 3-for-4. Makena Hall picked up a triple and two RBIs while going 2-for-3. Broadway was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Kadence Williams, Piper Abbott, Sulivan Smith and Briley Lawhorn all knocked in a run each.

Ardmore 14, Russellville 3: The Tigers are just one game away from their first state tournament since 2023 after a run-rule win in the second round.
Kiki Embry was 2-for-3 with a double. Kadence Williams had three RBIs on a double. Makena Hall was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and three doubles. Payton Pennington had two RBIs while going 2-for-4. Raelynn Dempsey had two RBIs on a base-hit. Fannon Broadway pitched two innings of perfect ball with two strikeouts.

Lawrence County 11, Boaz 6: Despite being outhit 13-10, Lawrence County won the second round of the North Regional against the team that ended their season last year. They will play Ardmore in the 5A North Regional final on Thursday.
Ava Templeton was 3-for-5 with a double for three RBIs. Alivia Terry was 2-for-4 with a double and triple for three RBIs. Ellie Stark knocked in a pair of runs on a base-hit. Reagan Smith had two RBIs on a double.

Lawrence County 7, Scottsboro 0: The Red Devils conquered the first of two demons in the first game of regionals, beating a team that helped send them home last year in Scottsboro. They advance to face the team that sent them home last season, Boaz.
McKinley McCaghren was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs while pitching four shutout innings and six strikeouts. Reagan Smith had two RBIs. Alivia Terry knocked in a run. Bella Cross pitched the final inning with two strikeouts and no hits.

Ayssa Butler was 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Kate Gwin went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Harper Mims and Ann Pressnell both knocked in a run each.
