In a major development, ESPN reports that FC Barcelona are studying the possibility of improving the contract of midfielder Marc Bernal.
The La Masia graduate signed his first professional deal in September last year, valid until 2029, but his performances and potential have led the club to consider revising the agreement.
At 18 years old, Bernal is seen as a future key figure in the first team. For Hansi Flick, he has become an important player following his recovery from a serious ACL injury that kept him out for more than a year.
Bernal’s reintegration this season has been gradual, with the youngster improving steadily to the point of becoming a regular starter under Flick, even moving ahead of players such as Marc Casado in the manager’s plans.

Barcelona view Bernal as a modern midfielder with significant potential, capable of playing both as a pivot and in a more advanced role. He also contributes effectively in attack, having scored four goals and provided one assist this season.
Deco, the club’s sporting director, sees Bernal as a player who attracts significant attention. For some time, he has been on the radar of several clubs across different leagues in Europe, and Barcelona are keen to avoid any risk of losing him.
As such, plans are shaping up to improve his contract that currently runs until 2029 and has a release clause worth €500 million.
