Barcelona exploring ways to retain winter signing after major injury setback
FC Barcelona are working on solutions to keep Patricio Pacifico at the club despite his serious knee injury, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The Blaugrana are maintaining contact with Defensor Sporting, his parent club, to allow him to complete his recovery in Catalonia.
Medical tests carried out after the Olot-Barça Atletic match confirmed initial fears: Pacifico has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The injury represents a major setback for the player, who had adapted well since arriving in Barcelona.
The Catalans had already decided to sign him permanently at the end of the season, even if he did not reach the ten appearances required to trigger the mandatory purchase clause in his loan deal.
The 20-year-old defender is currently using crutches and, as is standard with this type of injury, surgery cannot take place until the swelling subsides.
The expectation is that the operation will be carried out next week in Barcelona, where he will also begin his post-operative rehabilitation.
Pacifico’s current loan agreement with Barcelona runs until the end of the season. However, both clubs are exploring options to extend his stay so that he can complete his recovery under the supervision of Barcelona’s medical staff.
One possibility under consideration is extending the loan for an additional season, until the summer of 2027.

The estimated recovery period is between eight and nine months, meaning Pacífico could return between the end of 2026 and the early part of the following year.
He would then have the second half of the season to regain match fitness, confirm the positive impressions he has already made, and allow Barcelona to decide whether to complete a permanent transfer.
Barcelona’s intention is to resolve his situation before the end of the current campaign.
