Barcelona open contract talks with Robert Lewandowski

Barcelona are working on a new deal for Robert Lewandowski, with club president Joan Laporta running point on contract negotiations.

However, Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg reports that the Poland international striker may be forced to take a pay cut to remain at Barcelona beyond this summer.

Barcelona are open to keeping Lewandowski for at least one more season. Despite the prospect of playing with reduced wages, Lewandowski is reportedly open to staying at the club.

While talks are underway, Plettenberg reports that no concrete negotiations on the specifics of a potential deal have yet taken place.

Personal terms are not expected to be a problem, given the excellent relationship between Laporta, Lewandowski, and the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi.

Lewandowski has been a crucial player for Barcelona this season, scoring 17 times in 40 appearances across all competitions.

He has also reached double figures in league goals, scoring 12 times despite starting just 12 of his 25 La Liga games. It’s a far cry from his 2024/25 tally, but he still has what it takes to make a difference.

Since joining Barcelona from Bayern Munich four years ago, Lewandowski has scored 118 goals and weighed in with 23 assists in 187 appearances.

The 37-year-old has won five trophies with the Catalan giants, including two La Liga titles. He is on course to secure a third this season, with Barcelona leading the La Liga title charge.
