Even though there are some concerns due to the potential cost of operation, Alessandro Bastoni continues to be the top target for FC Barcelona to strengthen the defensive line.
The 27-year-old Italian international, for his part, is intent on signing for the Blaugrana and is believed to have even agreed in principle a five-year contract until 2031.
But with still no movement with regard to talks between clubs, Bastoni is reportedly starting to grow concerned.
Amidst this, Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t SPORT) reports that a key meeting is expected this week between Bastoni’s camp and Barcelona to try to finalise the deal, with Inter Milan representatives potentially involved as well.
There are no issues on Bastoni’s side in principle, but the key question now is the final valuation of the operation and whether an agreement can be reached between the clubs.
Bastoni wants to finish the season by winning the cup final against Lazio this Wednesday, and only then will he fully decide on his next step.
The Italian defender is already leaning towards a move abroad, with Barcelona his preferred destination, but everything depends on an agreement between the clubs. He is also said to want a respectful, smooth exit from Milan.
Alessandro Bastoni is expected to meet with Barcelona to finalize his transfer, having agreed to a five-year contract.
Concerns regarding the potential cost of the transfer operation have been raised, impacting the negotiations between the clubs.
If Barcelona cannot finalize Bastoni's transfer, it may hinder their plans to strengthen the defensive line, and the player may grow increasingly frustrated with the delays.

Inter Milan need to complete at least one major sale to plan next season’s transfers and are open to Bastoni leaving, but only for a minimum fee of around €60 million.
Barcelona, however, consider that figure too high, especially as they also need to reinforce other key areas such as striker and left wing. The sporting department must balance priorities carefully to avoid overspending.
The Catalans are also exploring alternatives, such as Cristian Romero, if the deal becomes unworkable financially. They are not willing to enter a bidding war or pay above their valuation.
A possible way to reduce the cost could be by including players in the deal. Names like Hector Fort have been mentioned, and Roony Bardghji has also been loosely linked as someone open to a move for more minutes.
Inter want the situation resolved before June so they can enter the market with clarity and funds in place. Barcelona, meanwhile, are confident but cautious.
In the coming days, it should become clear whether Bastoni’s future lies in Catalonia or remains in Italy.
