Your Oregon Ducks faced off against the #1 UCLA Bruins on Sunday afternoon, looking to secure a huge series win after Saturday nightās wild comeback win. The Bruins would strike first on Sunday, taking a 1-0 lead on a first inning RBI single. But the Ducks would answer back in the top of the 3rd, on a 2-out RBI single from Drew Smith, tying things up at 1-1. Oregon would strike again in the 4th, scoring a run on a Jack Brooks RBI single, a Ryan Cooney sac-fly, and then a 3-run bomb by Brayden Jaksa, giving the Ducks a 6-1 lead after 4 innings.
But in the 6th inning, things would start to fall apart for Oregon. The Bruins would score two runs in the inning on a solo home run to lead off the inning, and a two-out RBI double, cutting the Oregon lead to 6-3. In the 7th, UCLA would get another run back, cutting the lead to 6-4, and then the 8th inning rolled around. And this was where things completely spiraled for the Ducks. The Bruins would get another run back with two outs in the 8th, on an RBI single, making it just a one run lead for Oregon, at 6-5. Then, after a HBP to load the bases for UCLA, they would hit a go-ahead grand slam to give the Bruins the lead, 9-6. The Ducks would go down in order in the 9th, sealing the victory for UCLA.

Man. What a ballgame. The boys just couldnāt seem to get that last out in the big spot Sunday, which they were able to (for the most part) on Saturday night. But all in all, I think the Ducks played better than a lot of folks expected them to this weekend. They went toe-to-toe with the #1 team in the country and not only handed them their first Big Ten loss of the year, but damn near won the series. That is, by all accounts, not too shabby of a road trip. Now they have to buckle down and get ready for USC, which will be yet another major series for Oregon. But this time, weāre the home team. So hopefully PK Park is packed this weekend, because these boys deserve the support.
As always, āSco Ducks
