Bayer Leverkusen officially confirm new contract for Edmond Tapsoba

After it was reported late on Tuesday that Edmond Tapsoba had agreed to extend his contract, Bayer Leverkusen have now officially confirmed that the Burkina Faso international has signed a new deal.

Tapsoba’s contract, which was due to expire in 2028, has been extended until 2031, Die Werkself confirmed.

“In the past six and a half years, Edmond Tapsoba has developed into an absolute key player for our Werkself, into one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga, performing at an international top level,” said Bayer 04 sporting managing director Simon Rolfes.

“He was a cornerstone of our double-winning team – with a major personal contribution to that success and an outstanding influence as a link between all areas of the team. As one of our most experienced players, ‘Eddy’ will continue to lead the way in building a squad capable of competing for titles again. This long-term contract extension underlines our major ambitions for the coming years.”

Tapsoba, who had been linked with a move to the Premier League, described the continued commitment between himself and Leverkusen as “something extraordinary and very emotional.”

“Staying so long at one club – that doesn’t happen very often in today’s professional football,” Tapsoba said.

“Bayer 04 Leverkusen has become something special for me, a second home where I have found many friends. I am proud of what we have achieved together. I have had great experiences here and been able to celebrate fantastic titles. That is exactly what we will aim for again in the future.”
