Bayern battle Liverpool to sign £52m attacker?
Bayern Munich are reportedly stepping up their interest in Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon ahead of the summer transfer window.
Following a disappointing campaign, Newcastle are expected to consider player sales to remain compliant with Premier League financial regulations, and Gordon could emerge as one of their most valuable assets.
Liverpool are among the Premier League clubs monitoring his situation, but Bayern have now entered the race with serious intent.
According to Florian Plettenberg, the Bavarian giants are actively evaluating a move for the former Everton attacker.
Bayern are keen to strengthen their left flank and view the 25-year-old as a strong candidate to provide competition and depth behind Luis Díaz.
The German champions have already held concrete talks with Gordon’s representatives and have made their interest clear to the player.
Although Gordon remains under contract at St James’ Park until 2030, Bayern believe a deal could be struck for a fee in the region of £52m.
Fabrizio Romano has also reported that multiple clubs, including Bayern and several Premier League sides, are in the early stages of discussions regarding a potential move.
Christian Falk told CfBayern Insider: “The position is a good fit, Bayern are looking for this profile. However, the transfer fee currently exceeds the amount Bayern actually want to spend.”
Liverpool are also expected to reinforce their attacking options this summer, particularly with Mohamed Salah set to leave at the end of the season.
There is a growing belief that the Reds view Gordon as a potential upgrade on Cody Gakpo, who has struggled to consistently deliver this season.
While a move to Bayern could be appealing, Gordon may prefer to remain in the Premier League, with Liverpool offering the added attraction of a familiar environment and the opportunity to reunite with former teammate Alexander Isak.
