Bayern Munich have hit a significant roadblock in their pursuit of Anthony Gordon, with the German giants reportedly unwilling to meet Newcastle United’s steep asking price for the winger.

Despite Vincent Kompany identifying the England international as a priority signing to freshen up his attacking options, a substantial gap in valuation remains between Newcastle and Bayern.

Newcastle have placed a €92 million (£80m) price tag on the 25-year-old, who is under contract at St James’ Park until 2030.

Negotiations are further complicated by a 15% sell-on clause owed to Everton. This obliges Newcastle to maintain a high asking price to ensure a viable profit for reinvestment, leaving Eddie Howe’s side with little room for compromise.

While Bayern remain a prestigious destination, the Bavarian hierarchy are hesitant to sanction another major outlay following several windows of heavy spending.

Bayern’s hesitation is rooted in a strict ‘no-debt’ transfer policy, recently reiterated by president Uli Hoeneß.
