Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany seems poised and ready to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
In the lead up to the match, Kompany was asked about Bayern Munichâs propensity for giving up goals. Specifically, Kompany was asked if goal concessions are just part of doing business with the teamâs attacking style.
âThe mission is to win games. We have ideas that we think help us to do that. Itâs just about that. Weâve shown that we can win many games, PSG have shown that too. In the end, you have to score one more goal than your opponent to win a game. If you can do it without conceding, thatâs the best thing that could happen,â Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kompany noted that there is a special feeling around town this week in the lead up to the highly-anticipated game.
âYes. Thereâs a good relationship between this team and the fans. At the start of the season, maybe not many believed weâd still have a chance to reach the final â but now weâre here, weâve experienced many special moments. And I think the fans believe we can do it. We want to make it a memorable moment,â Kompany said.
While his team does not expect to change much, Kompany said there is a chance things could look different in the second leg.
âIt always depends on the teams. If one decides to take a step back and defend more, then there could be some calmer phases in the game. Otherwise there wonât. Itâs difficult to imagine that either team will change what brought them here in the first place. Weâre playing at home, we want to win and will do everything for that,â Kompany said.
Should the game come down to penalties, Kompany says his squad will be prepared.
âOf course we have a list and an order of penalty takers. But we wonât make any player take a penalty if he doesnât want to or doesnât feel well. But this was already a topic of discussion three months ago before the DFB -Pokal games. Itâs part of every training session in the second half of the season, and therefore wonât be spontaneous tomorrow if we got there,â said Kompany.
Finally, Kompany hit on the teamâs injury situation, which has improved in recent days and if he would be able to sleep on Tuesday night ahead of the big match.
âSerge is out. All others are there and available. Thatâs important and a big difference to last season, where we were very unlucky with injuries,â Kompany stated. âIâll have no difficulty to find sleep. I donât even feel the pressure of the game so far. I do my work and sleep without issue.â
