Bayern Munich ignoring Real Madrid’s LaLiga form ahead of pivotal Champions League clash

Real Madrid is not exactly heading into the second leg of its Champions League quarterfinals matchup against Bayern Munich on a strong note.

The UCL mainstays got stunned 2-1 at the Bernabéu a week ago, were held 1-1 by Girona a few days later, and now have to travel to the Allianz to face the German record champions. In fact, the LaLiga side is in a patch of bad form, having been dispatched 2-1 by bottom-half-of-table Mallorca prior to that first leg defeat to the Bavarians.

None of that matters, though. It is all to play for on Wednesday, and Bayern knows it.

“It doesn’t matter at all what their [league] form is like,” Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich said in looking ahead to that pivotal second leg this week (via Bild, as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “When it’s Champions League time, they perform. That’s why I think the way they played before is irrelevant.”

Indeed, somehow, Real is almost always there when it counts. Last week’s match was a no-holds-barred tussle between two heavyweights. Wounded, flagging in form or not, expect another signature effort under the bright lights on Wednesday.
