Bayern Munich secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Wolfsburg, who are facing relegation. The win allows Bayern to focus on the upcoming DFB-Pokal finale.
Bayern Munich traveled to VfL Wolfsburg for a match that meant a lot to the Wolves, but nothing to the Bavarians.
It was always going to be tough to âget upâ for this one, but after an early malaise, Bayern Munich picked up its play and pulled out an unconvincing 1-0 win over Wolfsburg, who is in major danger of relegation.
A dominant performance would have been great, but realistically, the team just wants to survive until the DFB-Pokal finale, so the squad will likely be content to take the three points. Letâs get into the details, here are some quick hitters on the match:
As always, letâs begin with a look at the starting XI:
Head coach Vincent Kompany put out a mixed bag of his starters and subs. On paper, it should have been able to put up some goals. Alas, that did not happen. It was good to see Tom Bischof back in the lineup, though, and it was another opportunity for Kim Min-jae and Hiroki ItĆ to show themselves (both have been loosely linked to a transfer this summer).
Bayern Munich did not look like itself early on, but the disappointment of losing to PSG, plus this game meaning absolutely nothing, all played into what was a lackluster performance.
Bischof hit the woodwork in the 19th minute. That would have been great for the kid to get a goal there.
In the 21st minute, Nicolas Jackson had a look, but his shot was wide of the mark.
Bayern Munich won the match 1-0 against Wolfsburg.
The match was crucial for Wolfsburg as they are in major danger of relegation.

In the 32nd minute there was some controversy after Michael Olise drew foul that looked like a penalty, but it was initially ruled offside. However. after VAR took a look, a penalty was awards, only for Harry Kane to miss it.
The Kim Min-jae Mafia (we might need the formalize this now that the #MĂŒllerMafia is gone â RIP) was likely out in fully force as their guy had his best game in quite a while. The Korean defender, who has been the odd-man out in the center-back rotation this season, was really good in the half that he played. The center-back was subbed out at halftime due an injury precaution. Will it be enough to convince Bayern Munich he can be the No. 3 man next season? We will find out soon enough.
The first half was not all that inspired of an effort from Bayern Munich, but this game was always only going to go one of two ways â utter dominance or general malaise. Itâs not as if Bayern Munich was terrible, but it was not up to the standard it had set for itself.
Credit to Wolfsburg, they were scrappy and battling, but they did not have enough to get three points.
It is still so odd to see Christian Eriksen on this Wolfsburg side at this stage of his career.
Bayern Munich just was not sharp in the first half, but the second half offered a new opportunity.
In the 54th minute, Musiala had a good look with a header, but did not get enough âoomphâ on it.
When it looked like it might just not be Bayern Munichâs day, Bischof intercepted a pass to start a possession which eventually led to Laimer, who subbed on at halftime, finding Olise for an amazing goal in the 58th minute. What a beautiful strike!
Olise is always capable of delivering that game-changing moment and Bayern Munich needed him to vs. Wolfsburg. It is a shame that he just could not get going against Paris Saint-Germain.
It should be noted that Jonas Urbig was excellent with his five saves, including three from inside the box. You can vote on that below if you have a take:
Bischof had a really nice game for the Bavarians and brought some positive energy. However, he might have put himself in some hot water with his postgame assessment of the win. The 20-year-old completed 94% of his passes, had two key passes, had 30 carries, and only lost possession six times. Though he did get himself into some hot water after the game.
Bischof did have one major gaffe, though, when his lazy pass was picked off and nearly led to a late goal for Wolfsburg.
Kane picked up a pretty hard knock in the 65th minute, which could have been disastrous.
Neither Kane, nor Musiala were really effective, which was disappointing to see.
In the 89th minute, after Bischofâs aforementioned bad pass, Mattias Svanberg had an insanely good opportunity to knot the game after four Bayern Munich players all flocked to Kento Shiogai. Svanberg â while all alone â hit the post. What a devastating miss as that could have secured a very valuable point.
Overall, what can you say? Bayern Munich kind of slogged its way through that win, but there some positives especially with the play from Urbig and Kim. Bischof and Joshua Kimmich were also noteworthy while Hiroki ItĆ and Josip StaniĆĄiÄ were also good. Olise had that moment of brilliance with his goal, but the attack â by and large â was not hitting peak performance. There is no reason to be angry or upset, but it also okay to say it was not a great showing for the Bavarians. Bayern Munich will take the three points and run home with them, while Wolfsburg will be left to ponder how it got to this place.

Before he made the move from RB Leipzig to Manchester City, Josko Gvardiol was one of the most sought-after center-back prospsects in the world and was firmly on Bayern Munichâs radar according to reports at the time.
Now, with his contract up in 2028, there is some speculation that Bayern Munich could renew its interest in the 24-year-old, with Real Madrid also being a potential suitor:
Manchester City are preparing to open talks with Josko Gvardiol over a new long-term contract amid growing interest from both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, TEAMtalk can reveal. The Croatia international defender has established himself as one of Pep Guardiolaâs most important players for Man City since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2023.
We understand that Man City are now eager to secure Gvardiolâs future beyond his current deal, which runs until 2028. Sources state that Man City sporting director, Hugo Viana, has been carrying out a major review of the squad planning.
After making progress on Phil Fodenâs long-term future at Man City, attention is now turning towards tying down Gvardiol to a new deal. We understand that Man City are fully aware of increasing interest in the versatile defender from Europeâs elite clubs. Both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are huge admirers of the 24-year-old and have made contact with Gvardiolâs representatives to explore his current situation at the Etihad Stadium.
The two European giants are actively searching for left-sided defensive reinforcements. Gvardiolâs ability to excel in that role at the highest level has made him an especially attractive option for both Madrid and Bayern.
It would be a shock if Manchester City did not extend the deal of its Croatian sensation, but it would be an interesting name for the Bavarians ahead of next season if â somehow â there was a move to make this summer. Unfortunately, it just seems like a total longshot.
Toni Kroos is nothing, if not intentional, and his comments praising Paris Saint-Germain, seem to be directed at Real Madrid if you read between the lines:
đš Toni Kroos tells Marca: âLuis Enrique subbed out Ousmane DembĂ©lĂ©, his best player, in the 65th minute of a Champions League semi-final and nobody complained. He exits the pitch, shakes his coachâs hand and sits on the bench cheering his teammates. There are some counter examples to this.â
âYou look at Ousmane DembĂ©lĂ©, and how heâs yelling at his teammates to keep fighting, from the bench. Thatâs not what 90% of players who think theyâre stars would do. They start to do bad gestures on the pitch, then sit on the bench sulking.â
There is a âŹ50 million price on the head of Said El Mala, which has caused Bayern Munich to exit the race (and rightfully so). Brighton appears to be the leader in the clubhouse for the FC Köln attacker:
đšđ 1. FC Köln still want up to âŹ50m for Said El Mala.
Brighton are waiting in the background. FC Bayern are out at that price. Chelsea are currently not in the race despite reports.
El Mala would back himself to make the move to the Premier League in the summer. Nothing has been decided yet, though. His focus right now is participation at the World Cup.

There were some odd rumors linking Bayern Munich to Arsenalâs Kai Havertz, but those are not true per Sport Bildâs Christian Falk:
â It is NOT TRUE: Bayern have added Kai Havertz to their shortlist ahead of the summer. I heard the rumours a few weeks ago and checked up on it. There were no talks, no negotiations. Havertz is already thinking about next season with Arsenal. I think he would like to play for Bayern Munich in the future, but at the moment, his name wasnât discussed by the supervisory board. Heâs not, at present, on Bayernâs summer shortlist.
Real Madrid interim coach Ălvaro Arbeloa does not seem like a bad guy, but he does need to stop trying to cover for or apologize for or lie about the mess that the team is at the moment.
đš Ălvaro Arbeloa: âItâs a LIE that the players are unprofessional, that theyâve disrespected meâ.
âJust as false is the claim that some of them arenât playing because of problems with me. Iâm the one ultimately responsible for the fact that the season wonât be up to parâ.
âOf course itâs a healthy dressing room. Itâs not easy to accept two seasons without a trophy, and as I always say, to be a Real Madrid player you have to be very ambitiousâ.
âOf course, we have to do things better, change, reflect⊠but I see a healthy dressing room, I really mean it. One thatâs ready to win againâ.
At this stage, Real Madrid should just stop everyone from talking.
