Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is concerned about suspension risks for key players ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid. Four players are one booking away from missing the semi-final if Bayern advances.

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany wants a change to the Champions League suspension rules for next season with four of his stars at risk of missing the semi-final first leg if they beat Real Madrid in Wednesday's quarter-final return.
Bayern lead 2-1 from last week's first leg in the Spanish capital but Manuel Neuer, Jonathan Tah, Dayot Upamecano and Konrad Laimer are all a booking away from suspension.
"It's really tough to come through these rounds in Europe without suspensions. There are more games now but you still have a suspension after three cards. If you get this far with only three yellows, you've done well but will still be suspended for a semi-final," Kompany told a news conference on Tuesday.
"That's tough. I think this suspension rule is a bit aggressive. It's the same for everyone. But I'd think about it again for next year. This logic is too harsh."
Bayern dominated the record winners for long spells in Madrid and while regretting not being further ahead, Kompany expects Real to pose a big threat at the Allianz Arena.
"We’re preparing for the best version of Real, which is what we saw against Manchester City (in the previous round). Their recent results don’t reflect the talent they possess. They’re still one of the best teams in Europe," the Bayern coach said.
"I felt after the first game that we could've stepped things up another notch. Maybe we could've scored one more goal."
Kompany believes the contest will be decided by fine margins.
"It starts with individual quality. There's collective intensity and willingness to go through the pain barrier. Sometimes a referee's decision can decide a game. I don't want that, but it shows that every little detail counts," he said.
"But we're mentally and physically well prepared. And we're excited about this game. You need those positive emotions."
Gnabry fit
Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry appears to have overcome knee problems and is fit to start on Wednesday if selected, Kompany said.
The forward missed Saturday's 5-0 Bundesliga victory at St Pauli but trained with the team on Tuesday.
His return means that Kompany could field the same starting 11 as last week in Madrid.
Kompany also rested several stars on Saturday including striker Harry Kane, who together with Luis Díaz scored in Madrid. Jamal Musiala is also available as he slowly gets fully fit from a broken leg.
Bayern will need to be at their best as they aim to end a run of four defeats in a row against Real in knock-out ties in the elite event.
In those ties, they lost three home games and drew the other.
The last Bayern home victory against Real was in the 2012 semi-finals which Bayern went on to win on penalties in Madrid.
If it comes to spot-kicks again, goalkeeper and skipper Neuer says he is ready to shine just like he did in the first leg.
"I don't think much has changed compared to 2012. You know the opposing players and their preferences. The analysis happens beforehand, you look at who's taken them and how," he said.
"But as a goalkeeper you have to develop your own feeling for what's going on in the minds of the opponent. I try to react to that. That worked back then [in 2012], but that doesn't necessarily mean it will always work."
Midfielder Joshua Kimmich has urged fans to fully support the side.
"Hello, dear fans, we’re now slowly entering the stage of the season where it really counts," he said in a video clip. "We players, you fans – we’re all dreaming of these matches. We need you; we’ll give it our all; we’ll push ourselves to the limit.
"Come in red and then we’ll go all out together."
Manuel Neuer, Jonathan Tah, Dayot Upamecano, and Konrad Laimer are all at risk of suspension due to being one booking away from missing the semi-final.
Vincent Kompany expressed a desire for changes to the suspension rules, noting it's difficult to progress without facing suspensions after just three yellow cards.
Bayern Munich leads the tie 2-1 after the first leg played in Madrid.
The second leg is scheduled for Wednesday, following the first leg that took place last week.
