The Chicago Bears are considering trading tight end Cole Kmet to the Baltimore Ravens after drafting Colston Loveland, who had a strong rookie season. Kmet, under a $50 million contract, has become expendable due to Loveland's emergence.

The Chicago Bears selected tight end Colston Loveland in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and the Michigan product had a promising rookie campaign with 713 yards and six touchdowns.
With Loveland establishing himself as a future cornerstone for the Bears and the long-term starter at tight end, Cole Kmet has now become expendable.
The veteran tight end has two years left on a four-year, $50 million contract he signed in 2023. However, it doesn't make much sense to keep him on the roster on that type of deal in a backup role, especially after he tallied just 347 yards last season.
As a result, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox proposes a trade that would send Kmet to the Baltimore Ravens, with Chicago receiving a conditional 2027 fourth-round pick in return.
"If the Ravens can't land a receiver like Pickensâor even if they doâthey should have interest in Bears tight end Cole Kmet. Kmet also has experience under new Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, who held the same position last season in Chicago," Knox said.
Kmet is an incredibly reliable player, missing just two games since entering the league in 2020. The 27-year-old's most productive season came in 2023 when he tallied 73 receptions for 719 yards and five touchdowns.
The Ravens lost a pair of tight ends in free agency in Isaiah Likely (New York Giants) and Charlie Kolar (Los Angeles Chargers), so the depth in the position group behind Mark Andrews is very lackluster.
Acquiring Kmet for a Day 3 pick to serve as another viable pass-catcher for quarterback Lamar Jackson would be a savvy move by general manager Eric DeCosta. The Notre Dame product would also fit well in the tight end room with Andrews and contribute in the running game as a reliable run blocker.
Kmet isn't the most exciting player, but he can still provide a ton of value to a contender like the Ravens due to his versatile skill set and experience. Baltimore should explore making a move for the former second-round pick.
