Emotional Lampard: Coventry promotion 'right up there' in my achievements

The Chicago Bears are identified as a leading candidate to acquire the disgruntled three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle from the New York Giants, who has a contract worth $87 million. This comes as the Bears aim to strengthen their defense following a successful 2025-26 season.

The Chicago Bears should feel encouraged by their much-improved 2025-26 campaign.
Chicago, which finished the 2024-25 season with a 5-12 record, secured 11 regular-season wins and defeated the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card round despite trailing by 18 points.
More importantly, Caleb Williams is starting to come into his own at quarterback, which is great news for a Bears franchise that is fully invested in the former No. 1 overall pick. That said, Chicago’s defense must address its defensive woes if they want to transform into a complete football team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport recently named the Bears as a top suitor for the New York Giants’ disgruntled three-time Pro Bowl Defensive tackle.
“This may well be the most likely trade in this column to actually happen—at least if New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II gets his way,” Davenport wrote Friday. “Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the eighth-year veteran and three-time Pro Bowler has requested a trade.”
“A trade wouldn't be especially easy to work out for Lawrence. He has no guarantees left on a contract that pays him $22.5 million a season, so he's going to want a new deal that includes a raise (it's why he asked for a trade to begin with).”
“There's also the matter of Lawrence's value in a trade. The Giants are going to point to his nine sacks in 2024 and want a Round 1 pick. Trade partners are going to point to his down 2025 numbers and offer significantly less. Potential trade suitors, Cincinnati Bengals and Bears.”
Lawrence possesses two qualities that should help him garner interest on the trade market; he’s still relatively young (28 years old) and has an alluring resume that includes two second-team All-Pro selections and three Pro Bowl selections.
Yes, Lawrence’s 2025-26 campaign was forgettable. However, the Clemson product can still be relied upon to be effective against the run and as a pass rusher due to his relentless approach and improvisational skills.
Even if a trade isn’t in the cards for the Bears, the franchise should at least inquire about the former first-round pick.

The Bears are looking to improve their defense after a successful season and believe acquiring the Pro Bowl tackle could help them achieve their Super Bowl aspirations.
The defensive tackle has a contract worth $87 million, making him a significant investment for any team looking to acquire him.
The Bears finished the 2024-25 season with a record of 5-12 before improving to 11 wins in the following season.
