The biggest question facing every WNBA team in training camp
WNBA training camps open with key questions for each team.
Ben Johnson has effectively coached Caleb Williams in his first year with the Chicago Bears, helping him maximize his potential. However, Williams fell short of a key goal set by Johnson, completing only 58.1% of his passes in 2025, despite leading the league in fourth-quarter comebacks.
Young NFL quarterbacks need to develop in many areas to display their full potential. Ben Johnson, in Year 1 with the Chicago Bears, already showed he is everything he needs to be as a coach to get Caleb Williams to reach his ceiling. The two have had great success early, but the best is yet to come in this strong coach-QB relationship.
In a recent Bears Wire article, Alyssa Barbieri broke down Caleb Williams falling short of one of Ben Johnson's goals. Here is what she had to say on the matter:
"The Chicago Bears saw an immediate impact pairing head coach Ben Johnson with quarterback Caleb Williams, as Johnson helped maximize Williams' potential in just one season. But there's still plenty to accomplish, including one goal where Williams fell well short of in 2025.
Last summer, Johnson set a goal for Williams to complete 70 percent of his passes. Despite Williams' success in the clutch, where he led an NFL-record seven fourth-quarter comebacks, his completion percentage was the one area that ranked near the bottom of the league. Williams completed 58.1 percent of his passes, which was down from his 62.1 completion percentage from his rookie season.
Despite not hitting that goal last season, Johnson isn't shying away from issuing the challenge to Williams once again entering his third NFL season. After all, that's a mark that represents where Johnson and Williams want him to be in the league."
Every young quarterback needs a coach just like Ben Johnson. Ben Johnson is going to get the best out of Caleb and tell him that the next season, last year's best is not good enough for this year. There is always room to improve, and a big spot for Caleb to improve is his completion percentage. Caleb and Ben Johnson will get that elevated and the Bears should be in store for another great season with those two at the helm.
In just a short period of time, the Bears have turned things around completely, going from a terrible organization for quarterback development to a model of how a quarterback should be developed.
