Four big takeaways from the Dexter Lawrence trade: Barnwell sizes up the Bengals' shocking move
Bengals make a surprising move, trading for Dexter Lawrence with the 10th pick.
The Bengals traded their No. 10 draft pick to the Giants for Dexter Lawrence, potentially jeopardizing the Dolphins' chances of drafting WR Jordyn Tyson, who is a target for both teams.
The Miami Dolphins have done their homework on one of the top wide receivers in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, the weekend mega-trade might have impacted their chances of landing him.
The New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals pulled off a massive trade on the eve of the 2026 NFL Draft. The Bengals, who held the No. 10 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, sent the pick to the Giants for All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.
At first glance, that might not seem like something that would matter to fans of the Miami Dolphins since it didnât involve the team.
However, holding pick No. 11 in the draft, the team now standing directly in front of them - the Giants - are a direct threat to snag a player that the Dolphins have kicked the tires on recently - Arizona State WR Jordyn Tyson.
Tyson is arguably, at least when healthy, the top playmaking wide receiver in this draft. With plus size - 6-2, 203 pounds - and explosiveness of a potential WR1, he appears to have healed from the hamstring injury that limited him in 2025 and seemed to have carried over into the offseason.
"He showed the twitch, explosiveness and leaping ability we all saw in the fall,â ESPN insider Pete Thamel quoted a source as saying of Tyson. âHe showed he's healthy and still explosive, which is all he needed to do."
But it appears as though the Giants have a significant interest in Tyson, and with two picks in the top ten - No. 5 and 10 - theyâre in position to potentially snag him with at least the second of their picks.
According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, Giants GM Joe Schoen flew to Arizona to attend Tysonâs workout and had dinner with him the night before. Oh, and Schoen and Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan were among the personnel in attendance at Tysonâs workout.
The trade places the Giants directly ahead of the Dolphins in the draft order, increasing the likelihood that the Giants will select WR Jordyn Tyson, whom the Dolphins are interested in.

So, if the Dolphins are going to pull the trigger on Tyson, it sounds like thereâs a strong chance that staying at No. 11 wonât get it done. And with plenty of roster needs to fill, it doesnât seem to make sense to part with a significant draft pick to try to go get him.
