SNYtv reporter Connor Hughes reports via Twitter/X that the Bengals first engaged the Giants about a Lawrence trade by offering the No. 10 pick about two weeks ago.
"The Giants still wanted to try to figure out a way to keep Lawrence," Hughes added. "When it became clear that wasn't possible, they send Lawrence to Cincinnati."
Lawrence reportedlyĀ requested a trade April 6. NFL Network's Ian RapoportĀ reported April 7Ā that Giants head coachĀ John HarbaughĀ responded to Lawrence's trade request by saying, "I'm not surprised by it. We'll try to work through it."

On the morning of April 7, Bengals defensive tackle BJ Hill, Lawrence's Giants teammate for two seasons, tweeted a shushing face emoji, leaving fans on social mediaĀ speculating about a trade thatĀ would reuniteĀ Hill and Lawrence in Cincinnati.
About two hours before the Lawrence trade was announced April 18,Ā Hill tweetedĀ a smiling face with horns.
