Girona fell with their heads held high at Montilivi in a thrilling and back-and-forth match against Betis (2-3), where the Girona team competed until the end but were penalized by the visitors' effectiveness at key moments.

Míchel's team struck first early on. In the 7th minute, Viktor Tsygankov finished off a good offensive play by Echeverri to put Girona ahead and make Montilivi erupt. The goal rewarded an intense and brave start by the home team, who controlled the pace of the game for many minutes.

Real Betis, however, managed to respond quickly. In the 23rd minute, Marc Roca equalized with a shot from outside the box that surprised Gazzaniga. The first half ended 1-1, with the feeling that Girona had deserved more.

Just when it seemed that Girona might even aim for a comeback, another blow from Betis proved decisive. In the 80th minute, Rodrigo Riquelme scored the visitors' third goal, capitalizing on a well-executed attacking move.
