Tensions spilled over following the 1-1 draw between Real Madrid and Real Betis, with the post-match comments shifting from the result itself to a heated debate over refereeing decisions.
At the centre of it all was Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa, who did not hold back when assessing the officiating.
Clearly frustrated with how the game unfolded, particularly Betisā equaliser, Arbeloa voiced his concerns in a manner that immediately caught attention across both camps.
It must be noted that Real Madrid had just dropped crucial points in a game they needed to win, and emotions were running high.
Speaking after the match, Arbeloa openly questioned the refereeās understanding of the game, stating,
āItās a clear foul on Mendy for Betisā goal. The problem is that the referees need to understand football, but sometimes they donāt understand it.ā
Such remarks were always going to provoke a reaction, and it did not take long for voices from the Betis dressing room to respond.
The first to address Arbeloaās comments was defender Diego Llorente, who adopted a pointed tone.
Alvaro Arbeloa expressed frustration with the officiating, particularly regarding Betis' equalizer.
The Betis star stated he was 'not surprised' by Arbeloa's explosive remarks about the refereeing.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, leading to post-match tensions over refereeing decisions.

Llorente made it clear that he viewed such complaints as part of the game rather than something extraordinary.
However, he also acknowledged the tendency of teams to defend their own interests while pushing back against Madridās stance.
āIām not exactly surprised. Everyone looks out for their own interests and makes the claims they see fit.
āWe also saw a play by Brahim that could have been a handball. Everyone has the right to complain,ā he said.
Llorente did not stop there, as he also took the opportunity to highlight Betisā performance, emphasising that his side deserved more credit for how they approached the game.
āMadrid might seem out of the game, but they have players capable of hurting you on any transition.
āAfter the first 20 minutes, we were very organised and created many chances. Lunin made several important saves. The goal was deserved,ā he explained.
