The Bills traded back one spot to pick up a 2027 seventh-round pick and have made the pick at 102nd overall on Boston College lineman Jude Bowry.
Bowry is a career college tackle who some feel may slot into guard because of some of his difficulties working on islands against pass rushers on the edge. He tested like an A-level athlete in the offseason process and he shows that on film with explosion to get to his spots. Most of his wins come when he can beat the opponent across from him to the spot. This is a player with great tools that very much needs more refinement.
You can see some of his wins against second round selection T.J. Parker on the clips below.
The big area of concern right now for Bowry is how and when he strikes with his hands. He has a lot of the unteachables with good size and length along with the aforementioned athleticism. His power is also one of his traits that underwhelm a bit.
Overall, day three is about valued depth and Bowry can offer that as a potential swing tackle in the future if his hand technique can be alleviated. There’s a chance a move inside could help him so he can really take advantage of his athleticism where he won’t have to live on an island quite as much to make sure his hand power is timed up accordingly. There was a clear path to a player like this and investing on the offensive line now to keep the depth cupboard full is a solid plan at this stage.
Jude Bowry is primarily a tackle but may transition to guard due to some challenges against edge pass rushers.
