The Buffalo Bills have decided not to retain Tyler Bass as their kicker for the 2025 NFL season due to his injuries. Matt Prater successfully filled in for him during the preseason.

Tyler Bass ended up not even having a 2025 NFL season.
He kicked in one preseason game for the Buffalo Bills, but that was it. Injuries kept him out the rest of the way.
Matt Prater, with a bit of injury replacement time in there for him, held down the kicking role for the Bills and did a solid job.
But the aging Prater isn't being brought back for the 2026 season, at least as of now, and so Buffalo's kicking role has gotten a bit of attention.
Bass is still under contract, but the Bills also brought in Maddux Trujillo as a guy who looked like potential competition.
There will be no more competition, though. The Bills have released Trujillo:

To be fair, it's early in the offseason, so this may not be Buffalo's last kicking move.

There are always veteran kickers floating out there as potential signings, so if the Bills decide they really need competition for Bass, they'll be able to find it.
For now, though, this is at least a small vote of confidence in Bass.
Buffalo will be hoping Bass can look like a fully healthy version of himself in 2026. There'll be big kicks to be made as the Bills pursue big goals, and Bass is lining up to be the guy to take them.
