Martay Barnes, a four-star combo guard from Melbourne, Florida, has signed with Florida State University, officially joining the team as a point guard. He reclassified from the 2027 recruiting cycle and chose FSU over Auburn after receiving numerous scholarship offers.
The Florida State Seminoles have signed four-star combo guard Martay Barnes, who officially signed with Luke Loucks' program on Wednesday. FSU announced him as a point guard in their announcement.
Barnes is from Melbourne, Florida, and was originally part of the 2027 recruiting cycle but decided to recalssify. He then committed to the Seminoles on Feb. 24, picking them over the Auburn Tigers. The 6-foot-2, 165-pounder had over a dozen scholarship offers from programs across the country.
"Martay Barnes is an explosive, play-making guard," Loucks said. "We've been incredibly impressed with his game – his speed, his skill, his ability to attack, and the energy he brings on both ends of the floor. He puts constant pressure on the defense and has a natural instinct to make the right play. The fact that he's reclassifying to join us early says a lot about his work ethic and commitment to his development. We're excited to get him to Tallahassee and start working with him right away."
Barnes is ranked as the No. 67 overall player and No. 7 combo guard in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 12 player from Florida.
He is the fifth member of FSU's 2026 recruiting class, joining Brandon Bass Jr., Jasen Lopez, Collin Paul, and Marcis Ponder, who are all four-star prospects. The class is ranked as the 9th best in the country by 247Sports and the 2nd best in the ACC.
