The Toronto Blue Jays have been decimated by injuries early this season, with a lot of their pitching talent landing on the injured list.
And now, joining Alejandro Kirk, George Springer is also landing on the injured list, and will miss some time due to a left great toe fracture.
The Blue Jays announced that the replacement for Springer on the MLB roster is former Chicago White Sox star outfielder Eloy Jimenez. It's a fascinating call-up, and could be a fun outcome for the Toronto offense if he can pick up where he left off this spring.
"Roster Moves: 1B/DH Eloy Jimenez selected to Major League roster and will be active today. OF George Springer (left great toe fracture) placed on 10-day IL," the Blue Jays announced.
This is an interesting roster move for the Blue Jays, as Jimenez was once a star for the White Sox a few years ago, when he posted an .891 in his second year in the league, winning the Silver Slugger for his position.
But he's struggled a bit in his career recently. He had -0.8 bWAR in 2024 between the White Sox and Baltimore Orioles, as he hit .238 with a .626 OPS in 324 at-bats.

Jimenez sparked some intrigue this spring, however, as he hit .286 with an .857 OPS and two home runs in 42 at-bats. While nothing other-worldly, it was a spring that made him a lot more interesting as a player.
He's played in 11 games in the minor leagues so far this season, and was hitting .257 with a .743 OPS with one homer in 35 at-bats. Again, not anything incredibly impressive, but still decent enough to be worth a chance in the big leagues.
He hit 31 homers in his rookie season and has 95 for his career. He might not have the best numbers recently, but his production in his career, and spring and minor league numbers this season, are reasons for the Blue Jays to at least give him a chance.
The Blue Jays called up Eloy Jimenez to fill the roster spot of George Springer, who is out due to a left great toe fracture.
George Springer is dealing with a left great toe fracture, which has placed him on the injured list.
Eloy Jimenez's call-up could provide a boost to the Blue Jays' offense if he performs well, especially given the team's current injury struggles.
