While the Blue Jays could use more offensive firepower and someone like Devers would make a ton of sense to acquire, there are two reasons why a deal will be hard to accomplish.
Adding Devers, who has 240 career home runs and is one of the best lefty power hitters in the game, would make a lot of sense for the Blue Jays. But the $313.5 million slugger does not have a clean fit on the roster for two reasons.
Guerrero Jr. has struggled offensively this season and is one of the main reasons why the Blue Jays could use more offensive firepower by this year's trade deadline.
But, someone like Devers wouldn't be a good fit since he would not be able to slide into the first-base role with Guerrero Jr. entrenched at the position.
What about the Blue Jays' DH spot? George Springer has that on lock, at least for the 2026 season. If Toronto wanted to plan for the future without Springer, then Devers would make some sense as a trade target.
In the short-term, the Blue Jays don't really have a good fit for Devers in 2026. He'd be a nice addition for the offense, but they have an issue with where he could fit on the roster.
Rymer brings up two good points with Springer and Guerrero Jr. blocking a potential Devers trade. While they could still pull a deal off and try to make it work, they're much more likely to explore other avenues at this year's deadline.
