Kevin Gausman has been great this season.
The Blue Jays' batting order and bullpen have let him down, though.
Despite great early stats, Gausman doesn't yet have a win in his record, and it's a bad trend. It's a tough enough situation that if it continues, Gausman could actually end up as a trade candidate.
That's what ESPN's David Schoenfield pointed out in a new article on Monday.
"It seems unlikely, but factor in all the injuries and some of the surprising performances in 2025, and it's not out of the question that the Jays just have one of those down years -- similar to 2024," Schoenfield writes. "If that's the case, Gausman could be the biggest target at the deadline."

This actually was the more bold part of what Schoenfield wrote in his new article.
He first pointed out that Toronto could use more pitching, and he suggests minor league pitcher Jake Bloss as the guy who could help acquire it.
"Injuries have crushed the Jays early on and contributed to a tough start, but remember, they were 27-28 on May 28 last season before everything came together," Schoenfield writes. "They thought they had acquired enough pitching to plug all potential circumstances, but you can never have enough pitching. Bloss is a potential starter who debuted with in 2024 before the Jays acquired him in the trade. Bloss had Tommy John surgery last May, and he hasn't returned yet this season but could be an interesting, high-upside gamble for another team."
Kevin Gausman is seen as a trade candidate due to his strong performance overshadowed by the team's poor batting and bullpen support, resulting in no wins.
While specific stats aren't detailed, Gausman has shown great early performance but has not secured a win yet this season.

The Gausman idea would be more for the post-script of that. If any efforts at an upgrade don't work, the Blue Jays could eventually turn in the other direction.
It'd be disappointing to go from Game 7 of the World Series to trading away stars. But this hasn't been an inspiring start to the season.
