The Toronto Blue Jays took a while to make up their mind.
But they've finally decided what to do with the closer role and the struggling Jeff Hoffman.
He's out.
"They’ll go with a closer by committee for now while Hoffman works on things in lower-leverage spots," MLB.com's Keegan Matheson wrote on X on Friday afternoon.
The 33-year old Hoffman has pitched in 12 games this year and allowed 11 runs (nine earned for a 7.59 ERA).

He has gotten saves in three of those 12 outings.
Hoffman also has three blown saves.
His record is 1-2, so the Blue Jays bailed him out of one of those, but not the other two.
Hoffman has gone 10.2 innings, allowing 16 hits while walking six and hitting two.
He has 24 strikeouts in the 10.2 innings, so it's not as if all his stuff stopped working, but he's been incredibly inconsistent.

The Blue Jays have other options in the bullpen, for sure.
Their most effective reliever has been , although they may not want to take him out of his fireman role and lock him into the ninth inning.

Braydon Fisher is another obvious option, and the Blue Jays could also consider Tyler Rogers (0.73 ERA), although teams generally don't put submarine pitchers into the closer role.
All that's clear for now is that Hoffman is out of that role for now, and it's not clear when or if he'll get it back.
