The Toronto Blue Jays are considering a trade to acquire Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara from the Miami Marlins to bolster their struggling rotation. This move aims to create a strong 1-2 punch alongside Kevin Gausman.

The Toronto Blue Jays have struggled to start the season, with a record of 7-11, tied for last in the AL East. Most of that can be attributed to the fact their starting rotation is completely banged up, with their ace Kevin Gausman being the only true star performer.
With that in mind, making a trade for another ace to add some depth to their rotation might not be a bad idea. Sports Illustrated’s Patrick McAvoy believes so as well, and proposes that the Jays make a deal with the Miami Marlins for their red-hot Cy Young ace, Sandy Alcantara.
The trade would look like this:

“Alcántara is a former Cy Young Award winner who looks like he could win the award again this year. He has a 2.67 ERA in four starts and has a club option for 2027. Two seasons of a legit Cy Young Award contender would cost a lot. In this scenario, they give up a high-end infield prospect, a pitching prospect and a starter in Berríos. Berríos has an opt-out after the season, but he hasn't pitched in a game yet this season. It would be interesting if he opted out because will another team give him the $24 million per year he's owed over the next two years?” McAvoy wrote.
So far this season, Alcantara has been on a campaign for a second Cy Young. He’s posted 2-1 record, a 2.67 ERA, 22 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.857 in 30 innings pitched.
Alcantara’s set to make $17.3 million this season, and has a club option for $21 million next season. For a team like Toronto, that's easy money, and they’re guaranteed he won’t be a rental.
Hopefully, the Jays realize this is a trade they need to make if they want to save their season, and get to work on making a proposal to Miami.
