The Toronto Blue Jays traded a minor league outfielder and a player to be named later to the Chicago White Sox for utilityman Lenyn Sosa, who hit 22 home runs last season. This move aims to bolster their struggling offense amid a challenging 2026 season marked by injuries.

The Toronto Blue Jays are in the middle of some major struggles during the 2026 MLB season. They're 6-9, tied with the Boston Red Sox for the worst record in the AL East.
But that might not be the biggest concern. Toronto has lost a lot of players to injuries this season, with Alejandro Kirk, Anthony Santander, Addison Barger, George Springer, and a lot of pitchers missing time already this season.
To help counter some of the early-season struggles from the offense, especially, the Blue Jays announced they made a trade with the Chicago White Sox, sending a minor league outfielder and a player to be named later for 22-homer utilityman Lenyn Sosa.
"OFFICIAL: We've acquired INF Lenyn Sosa from the White Sox in exchange for Minor League OF Jordan Rich and a player to be named later or cash considerations," the Blue Jays announced.
This move from the Blue Jays comes amid a litany of injuries to the roster that are beginning to pile up. Springer's injury is the most recent and has left the Blu eJays in need of more offensive help, even in the form of depth players.
Sosa can fit such a role well, as he's shown some intriguing power in his MLB career so far. Last season, he hit 22 home runs in 518 at-bats in 140 games for the White Sox.
It was the best year of his career, as he hit .264 with a .727 OPS and a 100 OPS+. He was league-average, and with the Blue Jays' struggles, league-average play would be a nice pickup for Toronto's offense.

This season so far, he's struggled a bit. He is hitting .212 with a .515 OPS in 12 games across 33 at-bats. He doesn't have a homer yet this season, but he might find his power stroke in Toronto on a postseason-caliber team.
Also part of this trade was the Blue Jays moves Shane Bieber to the 60-day injured list, a move that will guarantee he misses a bit more time this season, but not an unexpected move considering his recovery.
This move should be some quality depth at worst, and a nice upside hitter at best if Sosa can rediscover the power that he showed last season for the White Sox.
