Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson open to Premier League move, says agent
As revealed in an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb, Bill McMurdo, agent of Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson, has hinted at his client being open to a move to either a bigger Serie A club or to the Premier League.
“Lewis [Ferguson] has two years left on his contract. We will meet with the club shortly to assess whether they wish to offer him a contract extension or whether they prefer to let him expire.”
Having moved to the Renato Dall’Ara from Aberdeen in the summer of 2022 for €2 million, the 26-year-old has firmly established himself at the heart of the Rossoblù midfield.
About to complete his fourth season with Bologna, the Scotland international still has two more years remaining on his €1.28m-per-year contract, with the club retaining the option to extend it further.
“Lewis is more than ready to play for one of Italy’s so-called big clubs should he show interest in him and Bologna be willing to let him go. He wants to play at the highest possible level and continue to grow in his career. It would consider offers from any of the top five footballing countries, with Italy and England as top picks.
“Lewis is more than happy to remain in Bologna, but he is equally ready to take on any new challenges to advance his career. However, any transfer should be beneficial for all parties.”
Lewis Ferguson has, for a while, established his reputation as one of the most reliable midfielders in the top-five European leagues.
One could say that, were it not for the cruciate ligament tear that sidelined him for most of 2024 (which included missing out on a Euros appearance with ), Ferguson would have been scooped up by a bigger side quite a while ago. Clubs understandably paused in their pursuit of his signature to see how he recovered from a career-altering injury, and he has demonstrated with his consistent performances this season that he has managed to put the ACL matter behind him.

Given we go into the summer transfer window with defensive midfielders not in abundance, it would not be surprising if Ferguson moved elsewhere, with the Premier League a very strong possibility. If and when they do let Ferguson go, Bologna can expect a hefty windfall.
