The Greek was beaten 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 by Fabian Marozsan in Munich after missing a match point, adding another frustrating chapter to whatâs becoming a worrying season.
The loss means he is set to drop to world number 78 when the rankings update, his lowest spot in eight years.

Boris Becker has shared his thoughts on Stefanos Tsitsipasâ current situation, suggesting it might be time for the Greek player to make some adjustments. The comments came through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
âWondering when does he [Tsitsipas] realise, he might have to change a few things in his professional life?â Becker wrote.
âHe is still young enough to turn it around if he really wants toâŠâ
Itâs been a challenging year for Tsitsipas, with several coaching changes adding instability to his camp.
After parting ways with his father Apostolos in 2024, he brought in Goran Ivanisevic later that year, but the partnership didnât last long. By July, they had already split and Tsitsipas returned to working with his father again.
The 27-year-old has now lost four of his past five opening-round matches and has only won two of seven matches during that period.
Next up on Stefanos Tsitsipasâ calendar is the Madrid Open, set to run from April 22 to May 3.

The Greek star reached the round of 32 in last yearâs tournament before being beaten by Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets, 5-7, 6-7.
Tsitsipasâ best showing in Madrid remains his 2019 run when he made it all the way to the final before losing to Novak Djokovic, 3-6, 4-6.
âHe deserved the victory, he played unbelievable,â Tsitsipas told reporters after that match. âI couldnât do much.â
âReally like I think his performance this week â I didnât play with all the guys, but pretty sure was the best. So physically I was not there.
âMy legs were not coping with my mind. Completely I could feel the fatigue and this soreness, not just in my legs, but everywhere in my body.
âAnd yes, he played quite smart. He tried moving me around the court. He knew I had a tough match last night, so he took advantage of that knowing that, you know, heâs going to have to make me run and suffer more and I just didnât have solutions.â
