As per Mundo Deportivo, Borussia Dortmund have stepped up their interest in Gonzalo Garcia, with discussions already underway between the German club and the representatives of the Real Madrid forward.
Notably, the 22-year-old forward became one of the biggest breakout stories during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where he finished as one of the competition’s top scorers.
At the time, many within Real Madrid believed Gonzalo could become an important part of the club’s long-term attacking plans. However, the months that followed turned out very differently.
Simply put, consistent minutes never truly materialised for the Madrid-born striker, largely because of the fierce competition ahead of him in the squad.
With several players ahead of him in the pecking order, Gonzalo struggled to secure a stable role despite remaining highly rated internally.
As such, both Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa appreciated the youngster’s attitude and quality, but opportunities remained limited throughout the campaign.
That situation has opened the door for Borussia Dortmund to move aggressively for the Spanish attacker.

According to reports coming out of Germany, Dortmund have already started negotiations with the player’s entourage as they explore different formulas to complete the deal.
The German club are believed to prefer either a loan move with an option to buy, or an agreement involving 50% of the player’s rights.
Furthermore, the proposed operation could range between €20 million and €35 million, depending on the structure of the deal.
From Real Madrid’s side, one condition appears non-negotiable.
The Spanish giants want to maintain significant control over Gonzalo’s future through a feasible buy-back clause.
Without such a clause, Real Madrid would demand a fee exceeding €50 million before considering a permanent departure.
For now, talks remain at an early stage, but what is certain is that Dortmund’s interest is very real.
