Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation announces awards of $2 million through Fast Break Fund

The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation (BCSF) announced today that it will award $2 million through the Fast Break Fund, designating Horizons for Homeless Children and Square One as the inaugural recipients of grants totaling over $1.2 million to support education-focused initiatives within their communities, according to a release recently circulated by the Celtics. Additionally, a total of $670,000 will be allocated to nine other nonprofit organizations to support their outreach programs. The Fast Break Fund, launched by BCSF, aims to support children and families in New England, and was introduced during the organization’s 75-year social impact celebration, which began with Chuck Cooper being the first Black player drafted by the NBA in 1950, per the release. Horizons for Homeless Children has supported homeless persons in Massachusetts for over 35 years. Founded in 1883, Square One offers a range of education and family support services to meet the needs of children and families. Its programs include early education, youth workforce development, and home-visiting initiatives. This grant will support expanding a clinical team focused on early childhood education for youth who have experienced significant trauma. The grant announcement occurred during the 2026 NBA Playoffs Round 1, Game 2 at TD Garden, where Celtics representatives recognized nonprofit organizations. Each group was surprised with news of their selection as Fast Break Fund grant recipients.
