This year, the race will have 30,000 runners begin their journey from Hopkinton, up Heartbreak Hill and to the finish line on Boylston Street.
Wheelchair athletes will get things started at 9:06 a.m. followed by handcycles and duos, professionals, and para-athletes.
The first wave of open division runners begins at 10 a.m. and runs through 11:21 a.m.

Mass. native Sunita Williams, who unexpectedly spent nearly 10 months in space and returned home in March 2025, will run the Boston Marathon as the 2026 Patriots’ Award winner.
Longtime Bruins captain Zdeno Chara is expected to run his third Boston Marathon in four years. Chara withdrew from last year’s race due to injury.

9:50 a.m. — The para athletes have taken the course!
9:47 a.m. — Now the professional women have taken the course and begun the 26.2 mile trek to Boylston Street.
9:37 a.m. — The professional men are off and running.
Last year’s winner, John Korir, is in this group. He finished the 2025 Boston Marathon in 2:04:45.

9:30 a.m. — The handcycles and duos have started their trek to Boston.
9:09 a.m. — The women’s professional wheelchair marathoners just began. A new champion will be crowned in this heat.
Last year’s winner, United States’ Susannah Scaroni, is pregnant and expecting a baby in September.
9:06 a.m. — And we’re off! The men’s professional wheelchair marathoners kick off the 2026 Boston Marathon.
