Premier League club Bournemouth has dropped defender Ălex JimĂ©nez and is launching an investigation into social media posts allegedly involving JimĂ©nez.
"AFC Bournemouth are aware of posts circulating on social media involving right-back, Ălex JimĂ©nez," the club said in a statement on Friday, May 8. "The club understand the seriousness of the matter and it is currently being investigated.
"As a result, Alex will not be included in the squad for tomorrowâs Premier League game against Fulham and the club will be making no further comment at this time."
Bournemouth took the 21-year-old on loan from AC Milan last summer, agreeing to a permanent deal in February that would keep him in England through 2031.
Bournemouthâs manager, Andoni Iraola, addressed the situation during his pre-match media availability on Friday. âThe club has to do their investigations and see what has really happened,â he said. âWe will then move from there. I hope itâs not what we think.â
Deployed mainly as a fullback, Jiménez has appeared for Spain's youth national teams. Born in Madrid, Jimenez spent a decade playing in Real Madrid's youth setup, eventually playing for the Galacticos' reserve team. He was sold to AC Milan in 2023.
With three matches remaining, Bournemouth is in sixth place in the Premier League, currently holding the final spot for Europa League qualification.
