Prayush Mallaiah and Billy Hall are the top seeds for the District 2 Singles Championships after leading their teams to victories. Matches begin Thursday at 9 a.m. at Wilkes University and Kirby Park.

After leading their respective teams to championships on Tuesday, Abington Heights’ Prayush Mallaiah and Wyoming Seminary’s Billy Hall earned the top seeds for the District 2 Singles Championships.
Undefeated in his freshman season, Mallaiah is the No. 1 seed for the Class 3A tournament that opens on Thursday at Wilkes University at 9 a.m.
Hall, last season’s runner-up in Class 2A, is the top seed this spring. Matches start Thursday at 9 a.m. at Kirby Park.
Matches through to the semifinals will be played on Thursday. Semifinals and finals are on Friday at Kirby Park.
Abington Heights had a dominant run to the Class 3A team title. Mallaiah is undefeated, and so too is No. 2 singles player William Arp, who is the No. 2 seed for the singles tournament.
Wyoming Valley West’s Gadgidas Reisinger is seeded third, and Scranton’s Tom Bergman is at No. 4. West Scranton’s Matthew D’Augustine is seeded fifth, and Valley View’s Nick Burak is the No. 6 seed.
All seeded players in the Class 3A tournament received byes into the second round.
In Class 2A, Hall, second-seeded Alex Harrison of Holy Cross, No. 3 Max Bleiler, and fourth-seeded Ray Zhang of Holy Cross received byes into the second round.
Honesdale’s Lewis Smith earned the No. 5 seed and plays Lake-Lehman’s Tyler Matreselva in the first round. Wyoming Seminary’s No. 2 singles player, Dhru Sudhakar, is seeded No. 6 and faces Tunkhannock’s Martin Ortiz. North Pocono’s Billy Barker is seeded at No. 7 and will play Mid Valley’s Ethan Johnson. No. 8 seed Nate Linnen of Dallas plays Mid Valley’s Gabriel James in the first round.
Doubles tournament
The District 2 Doubles Tournament will start May 13 with the first three rounds at Wilkes University (Class 3A) and Kirby Park (Class 2A). The semifinals and finals are set for May 14 at 1 p.m. at Kirby Park.
District 2 singles champions are not eligible to compete in the doubles event.
