Cameron Young is going to be one of the favourites to win the PGA Championship at Aronimink this week, with the American in superb form in recent months.
It would be no surprise to see Young win a major before too long. The 29-year-old has arguably been the most impressive player on the PGA Tour this season.
Certainly, his win at the Wyndham Championship and an amazing Ryder Cup debut last year appeared to elevate his game to the next level.
Young has won The Players Championship and the Cadillac Championship. What was so remarkable was the different way he won the two events.
He showed so much composure to edge out Matt Fitzpatrick at TPC Sawgrass. Meanwhile, he left the field behind in the early stages at Doral and did not look back.
And as he assessed Young’s chances at Aronimink, Brandel Chamblee told McGinley and Chamblee at the PGA Championship what he has seen in him that reminds him of arguably the two greatest players the game has ever seen.

“When I look at Cameron Young, there is a bigness to his game. I would argue Jon Rahm does have weaknesses in his game. I would argue does have weaknesses in his game. Mind you, they’re both brilliant players, but when I look at a Cameron Young, I couldn’t find those equivalent weaknesses,” he said.

“He’s got, obviously, the length off the tee. He drives as straight and as long as anybody I’ve seen in the game of golf. By the way, we are unbelievably blessed over the 10 or 15 years of long and straight drivers of the golf ball, and certainly Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau are that. He’s massively improved his approach play game, fantastic putter.
“And as we all found out when he came up on the set at The Players Championship and in subsequent interviews, he’s got that stuff between his ears, that calmness, that clarity, that constitution that very few players have been gifted with. Nicklaus certainly had it, Tiger had it, but that calm in the middle of the storm is more rare than the talent that he puts on display.”
Young has an extremely impressive major record at this stage of his career. Admittedly, he did miss two major cuts in 2025. But he has seven top 10s in 19 starts.
He has finished in the top three at three of the four majors. His best finish in the PGA Championship came back in 2022, when he finished tied for third at Southern Hills.
As Chamblee notes, Young has become a player with no obvious weakness. He is inside the top 25 on the PGA Tour this year for strokes gained off the tee, approach, and around the green.
Meanwhile, he is 50th with the putter. And when you consider that his putting was a real weakness for much of last season, he deserves enormous credit for that improvement.
With a temperament that has led to some lofty comparisons, Young seems to have all of the tools he needs to get across the line this week at Aronimink.
