With the deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets arriving Friday, no team submitted one for Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, arguably the best kicker in football.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday that Aubrey now looks destined to remain in Dallas for the 2026 season, after the Cowboys placed a second-round RFA tender on him worth $5.76 million back in March.

His agent, Todd France, had been seeking close to $10 million annually, while the Cowboys had offered north of $7 million per year. The two sides never closed the gap.

Without a taker anywhere in the league, Aubrey stays in Dallas for at least another season.

He's the best kicker available and the league still passed

That part isn't entirely surprising. A source noted that of all previous kickers to receive the second-round tender in NFL history, not one has ever been signed away by an outside team. History held again.

Aubrey has made 112 of 127 career field goals, including a career-long 65-yarder and a record six makes from 60 yards or beyond. No kicker in NFL history has been more consistent from that range.

He had been clear about where he stood when the tender was placed in March, acknowledging the significant pay increase while being honest that the arrangement wasn't ideal.

"Obviously, the tender is what the Cowboys have talked about, and it's a good problem to have," Aubrey said in March. "It's a good amount of money and it's a big pay raise from before, but it's not the ideal for any player."

Dallas also entered Friday without their own 2026 second-round pick, having traded it for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. Losing Aubrey without receiving that compensatory pick in return would have been a painful outcome.
