Brandon Cisse, the Green Bay Packers' second-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, wears jersey No. 2 as a tribute to former Packers star Charles Woodson. Cisse aims to become the second starting cornerback in the team's secondary.
GREEN BAY – At a glance, the No. 2 on Brandon Cisse’s back seems specifically personalized. He was the Green Bay Packers’ first pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but a second-rounder. The Packers are hoping Cisse can quickly develop into the second starting cornerback in their secondary, joining Keisean Nixon.
There’s another reason for Cisse’s new jersey number, however. One nobody reasonably is holding the rookie to after his first NFL practice in rookie minicamp, but what is an offseason without a little hope?
When Cisse sees his new number, he thinks of Charles Woodson.

“That plays a role into it definitely, for sure,” Cisse said. “When you had the Rose Bowl, when you had the rose in his mouth with the 2. That’s a picture I still have in my phone.”
Before Wooden donned No. 21 for the Packers, he wore No. 2 as a Heisman Trophy-winning cornerback at Michigan. When Cisse was a kid, his father started showing him Woodson’s film. An impression stuck.
Cisse hasn’t stopped studying Woodson’s film since.
“Elite ball skills,” Cisse said. “Obviously freakishly athletic, could do everything, super versatile, and just his mentality. He changes games. So he’s always one of my favorites to watch.”

Cisse has a long way to go before his jersey number reminds anyone of Woodson. The Packers believe he has the freakish athleticism, and they’re enamored with his size at 5-foot-11¾ and what he said was a playing weight of 198 pounds. The elite ball skills never came in college with just two interceptions in three years, but he’ll have a chance to compete for a starting job early.
Not that he’s focused on the position battle that looms in training camp. For now, Cisse said he’s trying to learn as much as possible while acclimating to the league.
“It starts with taking and learning from the vets,” Cisse said. “Those guys have been in the league for a long time, and they’re the guys that have experience.
“So trying to learn the ins and outs, sometimes it’s just best to shut up and learn from the guys in front of you first. Just coming from a humble place, and whatever they’re telling me, I know they’re telling me out of a place of respect. So just coming in ready to work and ready to learn, and just keep improving every day.”
In their early interactions, new Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon hasn’t quite gotten to the Woodson film yet. Cisse said Gannon has him studying two other corners who played for him, Darius Slay and Xavier Rhodes. Both are bigger perimeter corners, the kind Cisse hopes to emulate in the Packers secondary.
“He’s worked with a lot of great corners,” Cisse said of Gannon. “Obviously Darius Slay and Xavier Rhodes, those are guys that we’re watching and breaking down tape, and coach [Bobby] Babich does a really good job from when he was in Buffalo. He’s got a really good plan for me, and I’m excited for it, but it starts one day at a time.
“I’ve got to keep working and getting better, got to dominate the scheme, keep taking everything and being a sponge.”
